Blact Now!Showing Up For Racial Justice
SURJ’s role as part of a multi-racial movement is to undermine white support for white supremacy and to help build a racially-just society.
Brief
SURJ’s role as part of a multi-racial movement is to undermine white support for white supremacy and to help build a racially-just society. That work cannot be done in isolation from or disconnected from the powerful leadership of communities of color. It is one part of a multi-racial, cross-class movement centering the leadership of people of color. Therefore, SURJ believes in resourcing organizing led by people of color, and maintaining strong accountability relationships with organizers and communities of color as central part of our theory of change.SURJ believes that we must ground our organizing in a framework of “mutual interest” -- white supremacy is integral to economic injustice, to maintaining patriarchy and other forms of oppression. Racism and white supremacy keep the many divided for the benefit of the few. We must have an inclusive, open-hearted approach to organizing, calling people into this work rather than creating barriers to participation while maintaining a clear political line. When those of us who are white realize that racial justice is core to our liberation as well, then masses of white people will withdraw support from white supremacy. Together, as part of a powerful multi-racial, cross-class movement for collective liberation we can force the system of white supremacy to crumble.

Blact Now!Black Visions Collective
Black Visions Collective (BLVC) believes in a future where all Black people have autonomy, safety is community-led, and we are in right relationship within our ecosystems.
Brief
As an organization dedicated to Black liberation and to collective liberation, we need a radical and ongoing investment in our own healing. By claiming love for our own bodies, our own psyches, our own experiences, and by building the resources we need to integrate healing justice into all that we do, we are insisting on conditions that can carry us towards the next generation of work, and towards a deeper place of freedom for all of us. BLVC is committed to a long term vision in which ALL Black lives not only matter, but are able to thrive. What we know to be true in order to create this world is that oppressed people, especially Black people, need to build collective power in order to create systems transformation. Through the development of powerful strategic campaigns, we seek to expand the power of Black people across the Twin Cities metro area and Minnesota. This can look like delivering mobilization and action goals as part of a national coalition in which Black lives are centered, but it most often looks like visioning and leading targeted collaborative local campaigns that advance a concrete impact for people’s lives here, while also advancing a shift in public narrative that connects to transformative long-term change.

Our mission is to provide bail for people without the resources to post their own bail while awaiting trial.
Brief
Through the use of a revolving fund, our mission is to provide bail for people without the resources to post their own bail while awaiting trial - giving them a higher chance of a positive outcome in their case. We want those detained pretrial to have the ability to keep their jobs, their spot in school, their housing, and provide care for their children while maintaining their presumed innocence - rather than sitting in jail without access to resources and costing themselves and the taxpayers money. By doing so we will be advocating for the abolition of money bail, pretrial detention, and mass incarceration by example.

The Eastern Iowa Community Bond Project (EICBP) works with bond-eligible detained immigrants to pay their bond and reunite them with their loved ones. Not every immigrant is eligible for bond– this is determined either by ICE or an immigration judge. Our clients are people who are eligible and who have had a bond amount set. Our program’s only criteria for eligibility are financial need and bond amount. We do not discriminate based on personal history, family status, age, sex, nationality, race, ethnicity, or gender. Our goal is to support and defend some of Iowa’s most marginalized populations: those without regularized immigration status or financial resources to navigate the immigration system. We bond people out of detention to protest and resist unfair immigration policies, to keep families together, and to mitigate the damage our immigration enforcement system does to the health and strength of Iowa communities.
